The Pinnacle and the Predator: Why the Devil Targets Your Highest Moments

The Pinnacle and the Predator: Why the Devil Targets Your Highest Moments

By Leonardo Schokman

It's a familiar pattern, often whispered in moments of reflection or shouted in times of crisis: Just when everything is going perfectly—when the career is soaring, the relationships are rock-solid, the peace is profound—a shadow falls. A sudden challenge, a tempting distraction, a devastating setback. It feels like a direct, malicious counter-punch.

This isn't just bad luck; it’s a spiritual principle as old as time: The devil comes after you at your highest moment.

Why is this so consistently true? Why, when you’ve finally reached a place of spiritual and worldly success—a "highest moment" that feels ordained by God—does the opposition intensify? The answer lies in understanding what that pinnacle represents and what is truly at stake.

The Devil's Strategy: Attacking the Anointed

Your highest moment isn't just about a bigger pay check or a happier home; it’s the physical manifestation of God's favour and your obedience to His will. It's when you are most effective, most joyful, and most aligned with your divine purpose.

For the enemy, this is an unacceptable threat.

1. The High Ground is a High Target

Success, peace, and deep faith make you a powerful testimony. When people look at your life and see a thriving narrative of hope and purpose, it points them toward the Creator. The devil's primary goal is to silence that testimony. By bringing doubt, chaos, or temptation to a person at their peak, he attempts to discredit the source of their success—God Himself. A public fall from a high place is a far more effective tool of discouragement than tripping someone who is already struggling.

2. The Vulnerability of Pride

Ironically, one of the greatest dangers at your highest moment isn't external; it's internal. Success can breed pride, and pride is the crack in the armor the enemy waits for. The temptation is to believe, "I earned this," instead of, "God granted this." This subtle shift in attribution opens the door to self-reliance, and when you rely on your own strength instead of divine strength, you become easy prey. The devil often doesn't attack the high moment itself; he attacks your attitude toward it.

3. The Power of Distraction

When you're at the top, the world offers endless distractions disguised as opportunities. New admirers, lavish indulgences, and the pressure to maintain the image of success can quickly eclipse quiet time with God. The enemy knows that a successful person who stops praying is just a heartbeat away from a colossal mistake. His tactic is simple: Distract you from the relationship that got you there.

The Only Defence: Go With the One Who Created the World

This spiritual battle isn't won by doubling down on your own efforts or by trying to outsmart the enemy. It is won by an intentional, absolute re-commitment to your Creator.

The simple, profound truth you must cling to is this: You gotta go with the person that created this world for you.

Re-Calibrate Your Foundation

When the heat is on, your focus must shift from maintaining your high moment to maintaining your relationship with God.

  1. Prioritize Prayer Over Production: When your schedule explodes with success, double down on your quiet time. It's your fuel, not a luxury. Ask God not for bigger success, but for deeper humility and wisdom to steward the success He has already given you.

  2. Practice Radical Gratitude: Counter pride with constant thanks. Every blessing, every accolade, every moment of peace must be mentally attributed to the source. Gratitude is the spiritual antidote to entitlement.

  3. Surrender Control: Your success is God's trust, not your achievement. When a challenge arises, resist the urge to panic and fix it yourself. Lay the entire situation—your position, your reputation, your peace—at His feet. Remember, the One who created the world is far better equipped to sustain your world.

Your highest moment isn't a final destination; it's a powerful testing ground. It's where your faith is refined and your true allegiance is revealed. When the devil shows up to challenge your anointing, let it be the signal to stop relying on your success and start relying completely on your Saviour.

The enemy will always target the peak, but he can never conquer the person whose foundation is fixed on the Creator.
